Generals Win ODAC Men's and Women's Swimming Titles

GREENSBORO, N.C. --- Washington and Lee University completed its third straight sweep of the ODAC Swimming Championships on Sunday evening, capturing the men's and women's conference titles after three days of competition at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C.  The Generals racked up 1,042 points to win their 10th consecutive and 27th overall women's championship and collected 1,047 points on the way to wrapping a third title in third season for men's swimming as an official conference championship sport.

Washington and Lee senior Emily Rollo put her name on the women's biggest award, claiming ODAC Women's Swimmer of the Year honors. Senior Robert Redenz did the same on the men's side, becoming the second athlete from Randolph-Macon College to secure the ODAC men's swimming top honor. W&L mentor Kami Gardner was tabbed the ODAC Women's Swimming Coach of the Year, while Hampden-Sydney College head coach Betsy Leonard earned ODAC Men's Swimming Coach of the Year laurels after leading the Tigers to a second place finish in the men's team standings.

The Generals added two more special honors to their championship haul with Ali MacQueen picking up ODAC Women's Rookie of the Year accolades and Tommy Thetford earning the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar Athlete Award for men's swimming. Emory & Henry College senior Michaela Nolte received the women's ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete Awards from the league's sports information directors. Greensboro College earned its first ODAC special award since becoming an associate member of the conference as Reilly Geise picked up ODAC Men's Rookie of the Year honors.

Hollins University junior Dani Raymond took home the remaining special honor from the league's head coaches. Raymond earned the Bonnie Kestner Sportsmanship Award, which includes a traveling plaque featuring the names of each of the previous award winners.

Championship Results

Washington and Lee staked a claim to 31 of the 36 total events competed in three-day weekend affair. Generals' women stood atop the podium following 16 events, with Rollo and MacQueen winning three individual events apiece. E&H's Nolte won the remaining two women's events. W&L men secured 15 event titles with Thetford, Sammy Logue, and Jared Nickodem donning gold twice each. Redenz was responsible for two of R-MC's three event victories.

A total of 16 events saw meet and/or ODAC overall records snapped, some on more than one occasion. Eleven women's events feature new names and accounted for 20 broken records between preliminary and finals action. The five men's events with new record book inscriptions saw their standards snapped a total of 10 times.
