Washington and Lee Wins Seventh Straight ODAC Women's Lacrosse Title

LEXINGTON, Va. --- The 17th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team scored 10 first-half goals en route to claiming the 2016 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship with a 16-3 triumph over Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.

The top-seeded Generals (13-5) jumped out to a 6-0 lead after junior midfielder Olivia Sisson (Great Falls, Va. / Langley) scored off of a feed from first-year midfielder Haley Tucker (Manakin-Sabot, Va. / St. Catherine's School) at the 13:48 mark. First-year attacker Maddy Graves (Cos Cob, Conn. / Greenwich) tallied two goals in the run.

The second-seeded Yellow Jackets (12-6) responded after first-year midfielder Hannah Jones (Chestertown, Md. / Kent County) found the back of the net with 12:29 left on the clock in the first half.

The Blue and White ended the half on a four-goal run to go into the intermission with a 10-1 lead.

Randolph-Macon opened the second stanza with an unassisted goal by junior midfielder Susie Snee (Bel Air, Md. / John Carroll) at the 28:09 mark to make the score 10-2.

Senior attacker Melissa Coggins (St. John's, Fla. / Bartram Trail) capped another W&L 6-0 run with 6:07 remaining in the contest (16-2). Sophomore attacker Jess Castelo (Red Bank, N.J. / Lawrenceville School) scored twice during the spurt, while junior midfielder Maggie Waxter(Baltimore, Md. / Roland Park Country School) notched a goal and an assist.

Snee struck again with 55 seconds left on the clock when she scored off of an assist from Jones to reach the final margin of 16-3.

For the contest, W&L held an advantage in shots (32-18), draw controls (14-7) and ground balls (14-8).

First-year keeper Ellie Aburn (Towson, Md. / Notre Dame Preparatory) played the entire contest in goal for the Generals and posted eight saves. Walker also saw all 60 minutes of action and finished with six saves.

Graves led the Blue and White with four goals, while Castelo and Sisson recorded three goals each. Junior attacker Sara Holland (Houston, Texas / M.B. Lamar) had two goals and dished out one assist. Tucker registered one goal, one assist, three ground balls and three draw controls.

Snee's two goals paced the Yellow Jackets, and Jones notched one goal and one assist.

For their efforts in the tournament, Castelo, Tucker, Sisson, Aburn and junior defender Parker Hamill (Darien, Conn. / Darien) were all named to the ODAC All-Tournament Team.

The Generals have now won a conference-best 17 ODAC Championships, including the last seven. With the win, W&L earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament, and will learn whom it plays when the selection show airs on Sunday at 9:30 pm on NCAA.com.
