ODAC Players of the Week

Thru Week Prior to: February 11, 2013

BASEBALL
Zach Whitaker, Hampden-Sydney, Fr., Pitcher
Whitaker, a sophomore from Roanoke, Va., fired his fourth career complete game and first of the 2013 season in a 1-0 win over the University of Mary Washington on Sunday. The 2012 ODAC Rookie of the Year tossed seven shutout innings, surrendering just four hits without a walk. He fanned one batter to earn his first victory of the season and lower his earned run average to 0.82 in 11 innings pitched.

BASEBALL
Keegan Dolan, Washington and Lee, Jr., Outfielder
Dolan, a junior from Bethesda, Md., supplied plenty of power in the Generals first two games of the season, a pair of victories over Rochester College (Mich.). In a 12-0 win over the Warriors in game one, Dolan went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and two runs batted in. He followed that with a 3-for-3 outing in W&L's 5-2 win in game two as he smacked two more doubles, belted a homer, scored three runs and drove in two more. He added stolen base to his stat line.

INDOOR TRACK
Tom Sippie, Lynchburg, Freshman
Sippie, a freshman from Toms River, N.J., put together a pair of solid performances at the Lafayette/Rider Winter Games at The Armory in New York City. Sippie record a pair of ODAC season-best times while placing in the top-five amongst NCAA Division III competition. In the 200-meter dash, he posted a time of 22.95 seconds to finish 10th overall and third amongst D-III runners. He followed that with a time of 50.70 seconds in the 400-meter dash, placing sixth overall and second versus D-III competitors.

INDOOR TRACK
Alexis Janney, Roanoke, Freshman
Janney, a freshman from Daleville, Va., won a pair of individual events and was part of the Maroons' winning 4x400-meter relay team at the Susquehanna Invitational hosted by Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa. In the 200-meter dash, Janney set a new ODAC top time by crossing the line in 26.75 seconds. She added a win in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.13 seconds, third-best in the conference. Janney was joined by teammates Alease Kinney, Jessica Mejia, and Carmen Graves in posting a time of 4:03.02 to win the 4x400-meter relay

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Chris Astorga, Virginia Wesleyan, Sr., Forward
Astorga, a senior from Suffolk, Va., helped Virginia Wesleyan post three road wins last week, including a non-conference triumph over #16 Christopher Newport and a pair of ODAC wins over Eastern Mennonite and regionally-ranked Guilford. In a 79-66 win over CNU, Astorga dropped in 17 points and corralled eight rebounds to go with a pair of assists. He followed that with 15 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal in a 70-65 win over Eastern Mennonite. Over the weekend, Astorga poured in 22 points with nine boards and two assists. He made four three-pointers. For the season, Astorga is fourth in the conference in scoring at 16.2 points per game.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Steph Rheinheimer, Eastern Mennonite, Jr., Guard
Rheinheimer, a junior from Manheim, Pa., helped the Royals to a pair of conference wins last week, including a victory over fellow regionally-ranked foe Guilford to take over sole possession of first place in the ODAC. In a 81-70 win over Randolph-Macon during hte midweek, Rheinheimer notched a career-high 19 points as she connected on 7-of-11 shots from the field, including 5-of-9 from three-point territory. She added two boards and two assists in 34 minutes of action. Against Guilford, Rheinheimer canned four more shots from beyond the arc towards 12 points in addition to four rebounds, two assists and a steal. For the seaosn, Rheinheimer averages 8.7 points per game and is third in the ODAC in three-pointers made (46).
