LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- Bridgewater College women's golfer Christina Herbert and Virginia Wesleyan University softball pitcher Hanna Hull both earned nominations for the Division III Woman Athlete of the Year award as announced by Executive Director Chris Voelz of The Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) presented by Honda.

The duo are designated two of 11 finalists for the prestigious D-III Honda Woman Athlete of the Year. This will be voted on at the end of the academic year by national balloting among 1,000 NCAA member schools as part of THE CWSA program, now in its 41st year.

All Honda Sports nominees from DIII and DII become a finalist for the prestigious 2017 Honda Woman Athlete of the Year in their respective divisions, presented in a live telecast on CBS Sports on June 26, 2017, in downtown Los Angeles. The Honda Sports nominees are recognized in 11 DIII and DII NCAA-sanctioned sports; cross country, basketball, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, volleyball, and track & field.

The Collegiate Women Sports Awards has honored the nation’s top NCAA women athletes for 41 years, recognizing superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service.   Since commencing its sponsorship in 1986, Honda has provided more than $3.1 million in institutional grants to the universities of the award winners and nominees to support women’s athletics programs at the institutions.

Both athletes have certainly earned their place in their respective sports. Herbert, the 2017 Ping/Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) D-III Player of the Year and ODAC Player of the Year, captured the D-III National Championship by two strokes with a four-day total of 293 and led D-III in scoring average for the season (74.04). She won medalist honors in eight of 11 tournaments and carded a career-best round of 69 three times this season, including the second round of the NCAA Championship.

In addition to earning the NCAA individual title, Herbert was the ODAC individual champion and is a two-time ODAC Player of the Year. The junior from Williamsburg, Va., is also a two-time WGCA first-team All-American and three-time first-team ODAC honoree. She helped lead Bridgewater to the ODAC team title and off the course was named a to the first team of the CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large Team.

Hull was recently named the DIII National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Player and Freshman of the Year after leading her team to the program's first NCAA Championship title. She was named the D-III Championship Most Outstanding Player and the 2017 ODAC Player and Rookie of the Year while earning MOP honors at the NCAA Super Regionals, Regionals, and ODAC Tournament.

A four-time NFCA/FPN National Pitcher of the Week, the Chesterfield, Va., native led the nation in victories (32), shutouts (15) and earned run average (0.51) and helped her team set a D-III record for wins in a season with 54. She was also second in the nation with 372 strikeouts, breaking the previous conference record by 154. She finished her rookie season at 32-3 with five saves in 220.1 innings of work.

For the fourth consecutive year, CBS Sports Network will televise live the Collegiate Women Sports Awards, honoring the nation’s top NCAA women student-athletes. The Awards show, Presented by Honda, will air on Monday, June 26, at 9:00 PM, ET (6:00 PM, PT) from Los Angeles, Calif. CBS Sports’ Jamie Erdahl and Brent Stover will host.
