FOREST, Va. --- Winter weather persisted for what spring sports hope is the final week of the year. While some sports saw limited contests, that didn't keep performances from hitting the upper echelon. Those earning weekly honors include (pictured, l-r, t-b): Will Salva from Roanoke baseball, Sydney Layman from Bridgewater softball, Bailey Hall from Eastern Mennonite baseball, Jakob Keidel from Virginia Wesleyan men's golf, Dani Murray and Jack Hodgson from Washington and Lee women's and men's lacrosse, Ashley Schmitz from Randolph women's tennis, Joe Dillenbeck from BC men's tennis, Dash Dericks from W&L men's track, Mara Briggs from RC women's track, DJ Petty from RAND men's track, Natalie Deacon from Lynchburg women's track, and Kelsi Martin from EMU softball.

Thru Week Prior to: March 26, 2018

BASEBALL - PITCHER Bailey Hall, Eastern Mennonite, So., Pitcher Hall, a sophomore from Daleville, Va., went the distance in a nine-inning gem to help the Royals defeat Emory & Henry, 4-1. Hall scattered eight hits during his full shift on the hill, giving up one run without a walk. He fanned four batters and at one point retired 17-of-18 batters after allowing the Wasps lone run in the fourth inning. His complete game is a first for an EMU hurler since current pitching coach Adam Posey did it as a senior in 2014. Hall is now 3-2 on the season with a 3.82 earned run average. BASEBALL - PLAYER Will Salva, Roanoke, Fr., Infielder Salva, a freshman from Leesburg, Va., helped the nationally ranked Maroons to a 3-0 week that included a two-day two-game sweep of fellow nationally ranked Shenandoah on the road. Salva went 7-for-13 over the three contests, smacking a double and a homer to go with six runs driven in, five runs scored, two walks, and a stolen base. He was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in a 7-1 win at Greensboro. He went 1-for-4 with two runs scored, a walk, and a stolen base in an 8-5 victory in game one at Shenandoah. He followed up with a 4-for-5 day in a 14-3 triumph in game two. He belted a homer and drove in four runs while scoring four more. MEN'S GOLF Jakob Keidel, Virginia Wesleyan, Fr. Keidel, a freshman from Salisbury, Md., tied four eighth out of 75 players in the Gold Championship at the Marine Federal Credit Union Invitational hosted by Camp Lejeune. Keidel fired a 2-under 68 in round one, helping Virginia Wesleyan shoot the lowest team round in school at 283 (+3). He finished with a 2-over 74 on day two to chime in at even-par 142 and four shots of the eventual winner from Oglethorpe University. The Marlins finished fourth as a team at 9-over 577 (283-294). MEN'S LACROSSE Jack Hodgson, Washington and Lee, So., Face-Off Specialist Hodgson, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., played a pivotal in a nationally-ranked matchup with Roanoke College. Hodgson took all 25 face-offs for Washington and Lee and won 20-of-25 showdowns to help the Generals to an 11-10 comeback victory at home. Hodgson was perfect in the fourth quarter, winning all five face-offs and was 9-of-11 for the second half as the Generals outscored the Maroons, 8-1, over the final 30 minutes of play. Hodgson also picked up a game-high 13 ground balls. For the season, Hodgson leads the ODAC with 134 face-off wins (134-of-212; .632) and is second with 52 ground balls. MEN'S TENNIS Joe Dillenbeck, Bridgewater, Sr., #1 Singles, #1 Doubles Dillenbeck, a senior from Penn Laird, Va., picks up his second weekly award after leading Bridgewater to a key league victory last week. The Eagles' top-flight player joined Josh Rodgers for an 8-2 win at #1 doubles. Dillenbeck then registered the match-clinching point with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at #1 singles for a 6-3 team victory over Randolph-Macon. Dillenbeck is now 6-3 overall in singles play on the season, all from the top ladder position. He and Rodgers are 7-1 at #1 doubles including 3-0 against league competition. MEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK - FIELD ATHLETE Dash Dericks, Washington and Lee, Sr., Throws Dericks, a senior from Waveland, Ind., continued his strong start to the outdoor season in the throws with two more impressive tosses at the Dr. Jack Toms Invitational over the weekend. Dericks finished second in both the discus and javelin. He improved upon his already ODAC top mark in the discus with a heave of 46.54 meters (152-8.00), which ranks 10th in NCAA Division III. He added a throw of 48.53 meters (159-3.00) in the javelin, which is just off his previous season-high (51.15m; 167-10.00), which is second in the ODAC. MEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK - TRACK ATHLETE DJ Petty, Randolph, Jr., Hurdles/Sprints Petty, a junior from Mechanicsville, Va., put together a strong showing at the Dr. Jack Toms Invitational that included a national highly-ranked time in one of the two events in which he competed. Petty finished second overall in the 110-meter hurdles with a new ODAC seasonal top-time of 14.90 seconds. That time is currently ranked eighth in NCAA Division III. He added a fourth place showing in the 200-meter dash, winning his section in 22.65 seconds. that is fifth-fastest in the ODAC. Click to learn more about the past week in ODAC OUTDOOR TRACK

WOMEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK - FIELD ATHLETE Mara Briggs, Roanoke, Jr., Jumps Briggs, a junior from Marion, Va., put together a strong first outdoor performance of the season at the Dr. Jack Toms Invitational. A national qualifier in the indoor high jump, Briggs won the event this weekend after clearing 1.63 meters (5-4.25) to take over the #1 spot in the ODAC. WOMEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK - TRACK ATHLETE Natalie Deacon, Lynchburg, Gr., Mid-Distance/Distance Deacon, a grad student from West Chester, Pa., was strong on the track in her first outdoor appearance of the season at the Dr. Jack Toms Invitational. Deacon competed in three overall events, highlight by a victory in the 800-meter dash. Her time of 2:11.78 leads the ODAC by more than 10 seconds and is ranked second in NCAA Division III. She also competed in the 5,000-meter run, finishing 10th in 18:48.14, and helped Lynchburg win the 4x400-meter relay in 4:06.07. That time is sixth in program history and #1 in the ODAC. SOFTBALL - PITCHER Kelsi Martin, Eastern Mennonite, Fr., Pitcher Martin, a freshman from Buena Vista, Va., put in some extra work in two appearances for this past week, helping the Royals earn a split with Roanoke. Martin went 8.0 strong innings before a walk-off blast by Sydney Reath finally ended the contest, 2-0, in Eastern Mennonite's favor. Martin surrendered just one hit over the contest, retiring the first 13 Maroons she faced and then 11 more in a row after allowing a one-out single in the fifth. She did not work a batter and fanned three in improving to 6-0 on the season. Martin lowered her earned run average to 1.54 despite being charged with three unearned runs in relief in game two (L, 8-0). Click to learn more about the past week in ODAC SOFTBALL

SOFTBALL - PLAYER Sydney Layman, Bridgewater, Fr., Infielder Layman, a freshman from Harrisonburg, Va., put together a strong two game set in a split on the road at Guilford to open ODAC play last week. Layman was 5-for-8 combined with a double, two homers, two runs driven in, three runs scored, and a stolen base. She finished the doubleheader with a .625/.625/1.500 slash line. Layman belted a pair of solo homers as part of a 3-for-4 day in game one (L, 8-6). She also stole a base in that outing. In game two, she went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored towards a 5-1 victory. For the season, Layman is hitting .350 with four doubles, two homers, and eight RBI. WOMEN'S LACROSSE Dani Murray, Washington and Lee, So., Midfielder Murray, a sophomore from Denver, Colo., put together a nine-point week as the nationally 14th-ranked Generals picked up a pair of victories. Murray opened with three goals and a career-best three assists in Washington and Lee's come-from-behind win over nationally 10th-ranked Tufts University. She added four draw controls to her stat line. Murray followed with three more goals to go with three draw controls in a 17-2 victory at Virginia Wesleyan in the Generals ODAC opener. For the season, Murray is second on the squad in both points (19) and goals scored (15). She leads W&L with 19 draw controls. Click to learn more about the past week in ODAC WOMEN'S LACROSSE

WOMEN'S TENNIS Ashley Schmitz, Randolph, So., #2 Singles, #2 Doubles Schmitz, a sophomore from Keswick, Va., went 6-0 last week in helping Randolph to a trio of team victories including a pair of conference wins. Schmitz and Lauren Appel won 8-2 at #2 doubles and then Schmitz won 6-1, 6-3, at #2 singles in an 8-1 victory over Sweet Briar. She and Appel picked up an 8-1 at #2 doubles with Schmitz adding a 6-1, 6-0, victory at #2 singles in another 8-1 team triumph, this time over Emory & Henry. Schmitz and Appel completed their 3-0 trek at #2 doubles with an 8-3 victory over Averett. Schmitz then won 6-1, 6-2, to complete the WildCats 7-2 win over AU and wrap up her own 3-0 week at #2 singles. Click to learn more about the past week in ODAC WOMEN'S TENNIS
