ODAC Athletes of the Week | Field Hockey, Soccer, Swimming, Volleyball

FOREST, Va. --- Just a few weeks remain in the regular season for ODAC fall sports. The athletes certainly have that on their radars with their strong performances as evidence. Those earning weekly honors in field hockey, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's swimming, and women's volleyball include (headshots; from top and left-right) Maria Teresa Ambrogi-Torres from Randolph-Macon field hockey, Grace Parker from R-MC women's volleyball, Abibi Osman from Lynchburg men's soccer, Emily Yergin from Shenandoah women's soccer, and Caroline Baber and Patrick Sullivan from Washington and Lee swimming.

Remaining awards this week will be announced on Tuesday (m/w cross country) and Wednesday (m/w golf).

FIELD HOCKEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Maria Teresa Ambrogi-Torres | Randolph-Macon | Jr. | Forward
Ambrogi-Torres, a junior from Richmond, Va., put together a strong week in helping the Yellow Jackets to a pair of conference victories to keep Randolph-Macon within a game of the top the ODAC table. Ambrogi-Torres registered nine points on the week, beginning with a pair of goals in a 3-1 win over Eastern Mennonite. She scored the second and third goals of that contest. Over the weekend at Roanoke, Ambrogi-Torres had a hand in all three of the Yellow Jackets tallies in a 3-1 triumph over the Maroons. She tied the game 1-all in the 20th minute and less than two minutes later put R-MC ahead for good with an unassisted effort. For the season, Ambrogi-Torres leads the ODAC in goals scored (12) and is tied for third in points (27).

MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Abibi Osman | Lynchburg | Jr. | Forward
Osman, a junior from Dadaab, Kenya, picks up his first weekly honor of the season after registering five points on two goals and an assist in the Hornets 1-0-1 week against ODAC competition. Osman got his week started by setting up Luke Mega's strike at the top of the box for the game's second goal in a 4-0 home victory over Randolph-Macon. Osman then twice beat Hampden-Sydney's defense in an eventual 3-3 draw at H-SC. He finished off a service from Ben Mackey with a sliding effort to give Lynchburg a 1-0 advantage in the 12th minute. He again gave the Hornets a lead in the 49th minute, finishing off Lynchburg's attack right in front of goal to give the Hornets a 3-2 edge. For the season, Osman leads Lynchburg with 10 points on four goals and a pair of assists.

MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Patrick Sullivan | Washington and Lee | Jr.
Sullivan, a junior from Pawleys Island, S.C., opened the 2019-20 season where he left off last year as the ODAC Men's Swimmer of the Year led the Generals to a 146.5-115.5 dual win over Mary Washington and participated in five winning relays to lead Washington and Lee to the top of the table at the ODAC Relays. Sullivan won the 100-yard, 200-yard, and 500-yard freestyle events at UMW, posting times of 0:47.22, 1:44.80, and 5:00.00. He also helped W&L win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:11.27. At the ODAC Relays, Sullivan and his teammates won the 3x50-yard backstroke (1:13.99), 200-yard freestyle (1:27.10), 400-yard freestyle (3:13.21), 500-yard freestyle (4:19.32), and 200-yard medley (1:36.70) relays.

WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Caroline Baber | Washington and Lee | So.
Baber, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., is off to a fast start in her second season in Lexington as she helped lead the Generals to a dual meet victory over Mary Washington and first place at the ODAC Relays over the weekend. Baber, last season's ODAC Women's Rookie of the Meet, won the 200-yard IM in 2:12.00 and finished second in the 50-yard freestyle in 0:25.29 as Washington and Lee topped UMW, 146-120, to give head coach Kami Gardner her 100th career dual meet victory. Baber also joined her teammates for a second place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:37.89. At the ODAC Relays, Baber contributed to five winning swims as she and her Generals' teammates won the 3x50 breaststroke (1:35.61), 3x50-yard butterfly (1:19.05), 200-yard freestyle (1:39.50), 400-yard freestyle (3:39.62), and 3x100-yard IM (3:05.79) relays.

WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Emily Yergin | Shenandoah | Sr. | Forward
Yergin, a senior from Warrenton, Va., picks up her second weekly award of the season after leading the Hornets to a pair of conference wins with 11 points on five goals and an assist last week. Shenandoah is tied on points (12) with Randolph-Macon and Washington and Lee for the top spot in the ODAC table. Yergin opened with three goals and a helper in Shenandoah's home 11-1 victory over Hollins University. She scored in the 31st and 33rd minutes to put SU ahead 4-1, and then found the back of the net a third time just before halftime. Yergin was back at it on the week as her fifth and eighth minute tallies spotted the Hornets to a 2-0 advantage in an eventual 3-1 win over Guilford. Yergin is currently tied for second in the ODAC in points (24) and sits third in goals scored (10). She is Shenandoah's all-time leader in points (142), goals scored (58), and game-winning goals (14).

VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Grace Parker | Randolph-Macon | Fy. | Outside Hitter
Parker, a first-year from Andover, N.J., put up a big week against solid competition in helping Randolph-Macon roll to a 4-1 week that included a top-of-the-table ODAC victory. Parker registered 57 kills, 50 digs, and 12 aces on the way to accounting for 70.5 points over 19 sets of action. She opened with 10 kills and 10 digs with three aces in a 3-1 win at Virginia Wesleyan. That improved the Yellow Jackets league mark to 7-0 and locked with Bridgewater atop the ODAC standings. Parker and R-MC then made the trip to Colorado College for tournament play. In a 3-0 victory over Johnson & Wales (Denver), Parker hammered 12 kills at a .474 attack percentage. She added seven digs and three aces to her line. She went for six kills and five digs in a 3-0 loss to nationally eighth-ranked Colorado College. On day two of the invitational, Parker opened with 14 kills, 12 digs, and three more aces in a 3-1 victory over DePauw. She hit .343 in the final match against Illinois College, collecting 15 kills, 16 digs, and a fourth match with three aces in the Yellow Jackets 3-2 triumph. For the season, Parker is eighth in the ODAC in aces (32) and points per set (3.3) and is ninth in kills (186), kills per set (2.74), and total points (227.5).
