The Lead: Saturday marked the first of back-to-back games in Tennessee for the Roanoke College field hockey team. The Maroons used a 9-0 shot advantage in the opening quarter to take a 1-0 lead over Sewanee. Roanoke enjoyed a 27-7 edge in shots to pick up the 6-0 shutout of the Tigers.

Highlights:

  • Just over minutes into the game, Katherine Martin scored off an assist from Emilee Wooten.
  • Holding a 1-0 advantage after the opening frame, Roanoke added a pair of second quarter scores. First, Wooten would add another assist to her school record total when she found Grace Vernarelli to make it 2-0, just minutes into the second period. Wooten got into the scoring column with a goal to make it 3-0 at the half.
  • Hannah Bunten scored the first of her two goals on the afternoon and with just over 10 seconds left in the quarter, Claire Eisenhart made it 5-0 Maroons.
  • Just over a minute into the final period, Bunten scored off an assist by Claudia Roncone to make the final 6-0.
  • In goal, Hannah Roerden picked up the shutout, recording four saves
