The Lead: As the volleyball season begins to wind down, the Maroons hosted an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tri-Match on Saturday morning. Roanoke would host Ferrum in the opener and the home crowd took a moment to honor the program's four seniors prior to first serve with the Panthers. The Maroons raced out to an early lead and hold on to win the first set and go on to sweep the Panthers.

Highlights:

  • Linsey Bailey recorded a kill and a trio of service aces while Peyton Kirchner added a kill as Roanoke used a 7-0 run to pull away early for an opening set win, 25-12.
  • The Panthers took an early edge in the second frame before a Roanoke rally tied the score at 6-6. Kirchner and Rylee Mayer started with Angel Ross and Parker Moody ending an 8-0 RC run with kills. A Ferrum timeout did little to slow down the Maroons as the home team won set two, 25-12.
  • Roanoke used Panther miscues and kills by Bailey, Mayer, and Kirchner to take an 8-1 advantage on their way to a three-set sweep of their visitors from Ferrum.
  • Bailey finished with 13 kills while Kirchner added 11 and Moody recorded seven. During the match, setter Olivia Newman eclipsed the 2,000 mark for career assists finishing the match with 11 while freshman Kylee Draper handed out 16. Kennedy Clemmer registered a match-high 15 digs.

Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: After a Randolph-Macon sweep of Ferrum, Roanoke took the court against the Yellow Jackets in the final match of the afternoon. Roanoke won sets one and three while RMC took two and four to set up a fifth, and decisive, set. The Maroons trailed 9-10 but a 4-0 Yellow Jacket run all but put the match away as Randolph-Macon won a hard-fought five set match.

Highlights:

  • The first set was tied at 11-11, before a big run by the Maroons seized control. Kirchner and Bailey recorded kills to start a Roanoke 7-3 run to propel them to a 1-0 lead.
  • The Yellow Jackets cruised to a second set win, 25-12, on the back of a 9-2 run in the early stages.
  • Set three was tied at 21-21, but three Yellow Jacket errors and a Kirchner kill gave Roanoke a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth stanza.
  • Eight straight by the visitors from Ashland gave RMC an 18-7 lead on their way to forcing a fifth set.
  • In the finale, a Bailey kill followed by a Macon miscue made it a one-point spread. Randolph-Macon closed out the set, and the match, with a 5-1 run to end the hope of a Maroon upset of the undefeated, 9-0 ODAC, Yellow Jackets.
  • Bailey had 17 with Kirchner 11 and Mayer 10 kills for the Maroons. Newman and Draper combined to hand out 44 assists and Klemmer recorded 25 digs.
