The Basics
Score: Roanoke 52 | Emory & Henry 75
Records: Maroons 15-8, 10-6 | Wasps 18-4, 12-3
Location: Emory, Va.

The Lead: After defeating the Wasps in the Cregger Center in early January, the RC women traveled to Emory for the rematch. E&H used a big second quarter to turn the tables on the Maroons.

How it Happened:

  • Emory & Henry raced out to a 5-0 advantage in the opening stages of the first quarter and the Wasps would grow the lead to 10-3 with 6:30 on the clock.
  • Renee Alquiza and Ayanna Scarborough hit back-to-back three-pointers making the score 10-9 at the media timeout.
  • After the deficit grew to five, Kristina Harrel hit a pair of free throws and a Corinne McPadden layup made it a one-point game with 1:00 to play.
  • A pair of E&H free throws would give the home team an 18-15 lead after one quarter of play.
  • A Harrel layup and three ball by Sayre Brandstatter would give RC their first lead of the night.
  • However, Emory would go on a 16-5 run over the next three minutes to take control of the match up and allow the Wasps to take a 12 point advantage into the halftime break.
  • Trailing by 12, Whitney Hopson absorbed contact and converted a free throw to cut the deficit to single digits.
  • Over the final 7:00 of the third period, E&H would look to put the game away, thanks to a 10-0 surge that would see RC down by as many as 19 during the third frame.
  • The fourth quarter would start with a Morgan Micallef jumper to cut the deficit to 14, but that would be as close as Roanoke would get as Emory & Henry took the rematch, 75-52.
  • E&H would net 18 points off 24 Roanoke miscues while leading in paint points, 36-22.
  • Scarborough led in scoring (14) and rebounds (5) while Brandstatter scored 12 on 4-8 shooting from long range. Hopson had three assists and matched Scarborough with three steals.

Up next: RC will have one more ODAC road game before returning home for their regular season finale on February 22nd. Roanoke travels across town to face Hollins on Wednesday the 19th at 7:00pm.
