Field Hockey Reels in the Marlins

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The CUW field hockey team started the weekend road trip to Virginia with a bang on Saturday. The Falcons picked up a 2-0 victory over Virginia Wesleyan to improve to 2-1 on the year.

Senior Lorri Pitock (Naperville, Ill.) scored in the first minute of the game to set the tone.

In the 16th minute, senior Alex Klamm (Glen Carbon, Ill.) scored off an assist from Lorri Pitock.

Lorri Pitock led the attack with six shots.

The CUW defense kept the Marlins' attack ice cold on Saturday and held a 26-5 advantage in shots.

The Blue and White also applied pressure with an 8-3 advantage in penalty corners.

Senior Emily Binley (Suffolk, Va.) shined in her return to her home state with two saves on two shots. This is the first shutout for Binley since the 1-0 victory against Neumann for her sixth shutout of the 2021 season.

The Falcons close the weekend against Christopher Newport on Sunday.
