The Lead: After a quick trade of leads to start, the No. 17 Roanoke women's lacrosse team secured a 10-7 ODAC win over the Lynchburg Hornets on the road Wednesday evening.
How it Happened/Highlights:
- Libby Bowman got things started for the Maroons with a free position goal at 10:36 of the first quarter. However, the Hornets answered almost immediately with a goal just 30 seconds later as part of a 3-0 run to take the lead 3-1. A pair of goals by Tracey Benzing and Bowman in the final two minutes of the first quarter tied the score back up at 3-3.
- Another three goals by Roanoke in the second period by Kate Loughran, Lilly Blair, and Bowman, mixed in with a Hornet goal saw the Maroons take a 6-4 lead going into halftime.
- For the rest of the contest, the teams would go back and forth on goals starting with Bowman's fourth goal of the game at 12:55 of the third. The next Roanoke came from Benzing with 10:52 left in the period.
- With the Maroons leading 8-6 going into the fourth, both Maddie Stopkoski (9:10) and Blair (3:05) each added insurance goals for Roanoke to secure the 10-7 ODAC win on the road.
- Kyleigh Chickering picked up her 10th win of the season, playing all 60 minutes and making six saves.
Up Next: Roanoke returns home this Saturday, April 15 when they welcome Christopher Newport to Kerr Stadium. Game time with the Captains is scheduled for 6 p.m.
