The Lead: The Roanoke College field hockey team played their final regular season home game when they hosted Ferrum on Tuesday night. The Maroons would not allow a Panther shot during the first half as they took a 4-0 lead into the break. The second half would see each team score twice as Roanoke picked up the 6-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win under the lights of Kerr Stadium.

Highlights:

  • Roanoke wasted little time as the home team would score the first goal of the evening just 44 seconds into the matchup. Katherine Martin sent a pass across the goal mouth to a waiting Caroline Diehl to get the Maroons on the board.
  • Three minutes later, the same duo would combine to make it 2-0, this time it would be Martin with the score off a feed from Diehl.
  • Senior Lauren Heffron gave RC their third tally of the opening quarter when she scored off an assist by Hope Keller.
  • Claudia Roncone beat the Ferrum goalie with a blast from the right wing to make it 4-0 at the half.
  • Less than a minute into the second half, Emilee Wooten scored an unassisted goal to add to the lead.
  • Ferrum would get a goal late in the third period and added another with 10 minutes left to go when they scored off a saved shot.
  • In the final minute, Wooten would find Saige Bullock on a long pass to the left post to make it a 6-2 final.
  • Hannah Roerden played deep into the fourth quarter, picking up the win and recording a save, before giving way to Madison Wingerter.
