  • The Short Story: The Roanoke women's basketball team continued its strong start to the season with a 75-33 thrashing of Ferrum on the road Wednesday evening. The Maroons scored early and often while keeping the Panthers to single-digit points in the second and fourth quarters. Sayre Brandstatter led all scorers with 21 points and seven rebounds; one of three Maroons in double-figures.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Early in the first quarter, both teams went back with Ferrum tying the score at 7-7 with 7:34 left in the period. Over the next nearly five minutes Roanoke would go on a 7-0 run and 16-4 to end the quarter for a 21-11 lead after 10 minutes. Brandstatter had nine of her 21 in the quarter.
  • The Maroons held Ferrum to just four points in the second quarter with two-pointers at 7:01 and 3:24. Roanoke would add another 21 points before the half to lead 44-15 at the break.
  • The Panthers kept it closer in the third quarter, but the Maroons still outscored them 17-12 over the next 10 minutes. The two teams traded three-pointers for the first four baskets of the second half with the Maroons leading 50-21 at 7:03.
  • The fourth quarter was once again all Maroons with the visitors holding the Panthers to just six points in the final quarter.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • In addition to Brandstatter's 21 points, both JaBryah Haverkamp and Lauren Keel each scored 10 points in the win. No Ferrum player reached double-figures. In total, 13 different Maroons scored against the Panthers.
  • The Maroons shot 43.5% from the field while keeping Ferrum to just 20.6%.
  • Roanoke also led Ferrum in free throws (15-4), rebounds (46-44), assists (19-6), points in the paints (30-14), fast break points (16-2), and bench points (30-5).
  • The Maroons had the largest lead of the game at 46 points at 4:50 left in the game.
