The Albright College men's lacrosse team scored nine consecutive goals to break things open as the Lions improved to 6-0 in their inaugural season, defeating host Randolph 16-4 on Tuesday in Virginia.
Ryan Turner led the way with five goals and an assist, while
Dan Foote had a four goals.
T.J. Holston had two goals and two assists, while national assists leader
Philip Potter tacked on three more helpers to go with a goal.
The Lions' lost the faceoff battle for the first time this season, but main draw man
Darian Meador still won 9-of-15 faceoffs and picked up five ground balls. Defenseman
Mike Donohoe added five ground balls and five caused turnovers.
The Red and White were leading 6-3 midway through the second quarter after
Colton Wood's goal, but ran off nine consecutive points after that to pull away. Foote's goal with three seconds remaining before halftime made it 10-3, and
Justin Brown and
Bryan Smith added goals in the third.
Holston tallied twice to kick off the final period, and
Joshua Taylor (from
Nicholas Pisko) completed the run and put Albright ahead 15-4.
The Lions had tallied three times in the opening five minutes to take a quick 3-1 lead. Potter scored from
Jeremy Salmon at 11:38, and then assisted Turner 1:09 later. Another Turner goal at 10:06 gave the Lions three tallies in a span of 92 seconds.
Wood and
Bobby Crosby each totaled two goals and assisted each other once for Randolph.
John Grundy won 9-of-15 draws and picked up seven ground balls,
Greg Herrick had six ground balls and three caused turnovers, and
Kevin McCracken made 11 saves in the cage.
Albright's
Andrew Torak made eight stops himself to improve to 5-0 in goal. The Lions will travel to Gwynedd-Mercy on Saturday.
