#3 Sweet Briar Women's Tennis Defeats Sixth-Seeded Emory & Henry In ODAC Tournament Quarterfinals Saturday

EMORY, Va. - The #3 Sweet Briar College Women's Tennis Team (14-5) advanced to the semifinals of the 2021 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament with a 5-2 win over #6 Emory & Henry College (8-6) Saturday afternoon. It marked the third time in the last four seasons (excluding 2019-20) that the Wasps have reached the conference postseason.

How It Happened
The Vixens opened up a 2-1 lead through the doubles portion of the match. E&H grabbed its victory at No. 3 as sophomore Sarah Marion (Dobson, N.C.) and freshman Molly McMichael (Riner, Va.) won in a tiebreak, 8-7 (7-4). The other two pairings went as 8-2 wins for Sweet Briar.

Singles action saw the Vixens reach the brink of victory by earning wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Junior Cailie Pollard (Rural Retreat, Va.) kept the Wasps in the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6 before SBC clinched the victory with a win at No. 1.
