Volleyball falls to VA Wesleyan in 4 sets

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Volleyball team fell in four sets to a talented Virginia Wesleyan team at home from Everett Gym on Wednesday night.

The Bishops got out to a strong start in the first set plowing through 25-15 behind 14 kills and hitting an impressive .423.

VWU then came back and pulled away late in the second set to take that one 25-18 on 11 kills. A back and forth third set then saw the Marlins edge out the Bishops 25-23 as neither team led by more than two for the entire set as the teams combined for 25 kills.

VWU (19-6) then finished off the Bishops 25-17 in the fourth set hitting .333 with 13 kills.

NCWC was led by 14 kills from senior outside hitter Michaela Seawell as she hit .200 with six digs and three aces. Fellow outside, junior Aubrey Nicholson also added 8 kills and 10 digs with 3 aces and a block in the tough loss.

Senior middle hitters Lauren Weaver and Sydney Barnwell then combined for 15 kills and 4 blocks while sophomore setter Sloan Martin also registered 38 assists, 7 digs, 4 kills, and an ace.

Junior libero Kira Kristjanson and senior DS Mary Catherine Davis also each recorded 13 digs apiece.

The Lady Bishops fall to 15-10 on the season and will next be back on the road Thursday to face Methodist at 7 pm.
