ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College softball team put up a good effort but dropped both games at home to the defending Div. III National Champion Virginia Wesleyan. The Bishops fell 6-1 in game one and 6-0 in game two.

Freshman starter Emily Humphrey (2-1) pitched a solid game one allowing just three runs through five innings. Unfortunately, a three-run homer in the 6th put the game out of reach for the Bishops. Humphrey battled throughout and finished the game allowing 6 runs on 13 hits, a walk and two strikeouts.

NCWC scored their one run in the 6th as senior SS Meredith Mize doubled while senior CF Logan Winstead scored on a wild pitch. Mize recorded a two-hit game as well.

In game two, VWU got to Bishop freshman starter Laila Holloway for two runs in the first on 3 hits before scoring one in the third and two more in the 4th to knock Holloway out of the game after 4 innings. She finished the day allowing 5 runs on 11 hits and 0 walks with 2 strikeouts over 4 innings. Freshman reliever Avery Jordan then finished the game throwing 3 innings allowing just one run on one hit and 2 walks while striking out two.

Offensively, NCWC could not push any runs across against the VWU defense while freshman 3B Molly Alejandrino led the team with two hits. Winstead and sophomore catcher MK Raynor also recorded one hit each in the loss.

NCWC falls to 8-6 with the losses while VWU improves to 15-3. The Bishops will continue their homestand when they host Guilford College on Sunday in a 1:00 DH.
