The Lead: Saturday marked the start of the 2021 Roanoke College men's tennis campaign. The Maroons kicked off the season by hosting their arch rivals from Hampden-Sydney. Roanoke swept the doubles matches and went 5-1 in singles play for the 8-1, season opening win.

Highlights:

  • The Maroon duo of Zach Kriebel and Hunter Adams had the easiest time in the doubles matches with an 8-1 win at the #3 spot.
  • At #1 doubles, the team of Jack Fishwick and Grayson White picked up an 8-3 win while Dalton Capobianco and Thomas Hodges got the victory at #2, 8-2.
  • The hot start by the Maroons wouldn't be slowed down during the singles matches.
  • Fishwick took the top spot, 6-3 and 6-4 with Capobianco cruising at #3, 6-0 and 6-1.
  • Kriebel (4 and 2) and Hodges (2 and 2) also won in straight sets.
  • At the #2 spot, White dropped the first set, 5-7, before coming back in set number two, 6-2, to force a third set tie-breaker. White was tied at 8-8 before taking the next two for the 10-8 win, giving Roanoke the 8-1 win over the Tigers.

Up next: The Maroons are scheduled to travel to Guilford next Saturday for a 1:00pm match with the Quakers.
