The Lead: Christopher Newport used 10 unanswered goals to start the second quarter en route to a 24-12 win over Roanoke College. 

How it Happened:

  • CNU got on the board 40 seconds into the game before RC tied it on a Jason Sarro goal at the 13:20 mark.
  • The Captains went up 2-1, but RC got back-to-back goals from Braedan Allen and George Gilbert to take a 3-2 lead with 8:37 to go in the first quarter.
  • Christopher Newport tied the game on a Will Stockhausen goal less than a minute later and Ethan Caldwell would put RC up 4-3 after one quarter with a goal at the 5:21 mark.
  • Stockhausen scored 28 seconds into the second quarter and it sparked a 10-0 run that was capped by a Stockhausen strike that made it 13-4.
  • The Captains led 14-5 at halftime and scored four goals to start the second-half and put the game away.
  • Sarro led RC with three goals and four assists for seven points. Gilbert had four goals and Caldwell finished with three goals and an assist. Josh Vetter had 10 groundballs to go with four caused turnovers.
  • CNU was led by Alex Brandes with five goals. Stockhausen had four goals and an assist, while Drew Miller had three goals and three assists. Aaron Casteel won 21-of-29 face offs in the victory.
  • Christopher Newport outshot RC 51-40 and the Maroons held a 45-41 edge in groundballs.
