#19 Guilford Wins at Methodist, 77-53

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Josh Pittman scored a career-high 19 points in Guilford College's 77-53 basketball win at Methodist University Wednesday night. Pittman, who also had six rebounds and three steals, paced three Quakers (1-1) in double-figure scoring to win the Monarchs' (0-1) season opener.

Guilford is ranked 19th in the preseason D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll.

Pittman scored 10 points and T.C. Anderson tallied eight of his 10 points in the first half, which helped Guilford open a 36-29 lead late in the first half. Rookie Connor Belicic's three-pointer one second before halftime gave the Quakers a 39-29 edge.

Methodist drew no closer than eight points in the second half as the Quakers held the hosts to under 31 percent field-goal shooting. Guilford's Gabriel Lowder netted 10 of his season-high 12 points in the second half. The Quakers' reserves outscored Methodist's, 31-17.

James Whitehead led the Monarchs with 11 points.

Guilford hosts the Hilton Garden Inn Invitational this weekend in the Ragan-Brown Field House. Emory University plays Averett University Friday (11/19) at 6:00 p.m. The Quakers meet McMurry (Texas) University at 8:00 p.m. The consolation and championship games take placed Saturday beginning at 3:00 p.m.
