The Lead: Roanoke took their 2-0 record on the road for a double header at Southern Virginia on Wednesday afternoon. The Maroons would take the opener, 10-0, and looked to remain perfect in game two. Game two would see a slow start for Roanoke but three home runs later, the Maroons stayed perfect on the season with a 10-2 win.

Highlights:

  • After a scoreless first, Rachel Sirbaugh led off the second with a double followed by a base hit by Jada Karnes. Makayla Austin delivered a 2-run double and then scored on a Meri Bostic base hit to give RC a 3-0 advantage.
  • Karnes and Austin reached to start the fourth and a Riley Croghan double made it 5-0. Sammie Murphy walked and Bostic reached on an error to load the bases. Jordyn DiFava doubled to drive in three more Roanoke runs. Shanan Hester was hit by a pitch and after a double steal, back-to-back fielder's choices would put the Maroons in front 10-0.
  • Karnes picked up her second win of the season by pitching five innings, giving up just two hits and recording eight strikeouts.
  • DiFava was 2-3 with a run and three RBI while Karnes was 2-2 and Austin went 1-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Highlights:

  • Serenity Bishop led off the second inning with a solo home run to put Roanoke in front.
  • Hester reached on an error to start the fourth inning that would see the Maroons plate three more runs. Kate Houle doubled to put a pair of runners on base. Lilly Burns hammered a three-run home run and Roanoke grew its lead to 4-0.
  • After seeing the Knights score their first run of the afternoon, Roanoke would use a Bishop RBI single and a Hester score on a wild pitch to make it 6-1.
  • The Maroons would put the game away in the sixth. With one-out, Roanoke loaded the bases ahead of a Madison Courts grand slam.
  • Hester started and pitched six innings, giving up a pair of hits, two runs, while striking out two. Houle was 3-3, Bishop went 2-3 with two RBI as Roanoke used three home runs to complete the sweep of Southern Virginia.

Up next: The Maroons will host the 2022 Mountain Mash at the James Moyer Complex on Friday and Saturday. Roanoke opens with Fredonia on Friday at 3:00pm.
