WSOC plays No. 1, defending national champion Lynchburg tough, falls 1-0

SALEM, Va. – Top-ranked and defending national champion Lynchburg is used to scoring bushels of goals. Last season the Hornets scored multiple goals in all but three games, one of which was the national championship game. Saturday, Elizabethtown was able to hold them to a lone goal, but could not muster one of their own in a 1-0 setback at the Roanoke Invitational.

Dana Robidoux made three saves for the Jays (0-1-1), including one on Marina Clark in the 21st minute to keep the game scoreless. Clark would get her next one by E-town's senior keeper, though, scoring off a set piece from just outside the 18 in the 23rd minute for the game's only goal.

Maddie Burkhardt had a shot on goal and Kaceyanne Cerankowski contributed Elizabethtown's other shot, as Lynchburg held a 10-2 advantage in opportunities.

Tess Frelick stopped Burkhardt's attempt for only save to preserve the Hornets' (1-0) shutout.

Elizabethtown will try to get in the win column Sunday afternoon when it faces Roanoke at 5 p.m.
