The No. 25 University of Redlands men's tennis team secured a 6-3 win over the visiting Generals of No. 36 Washington and Lee University (VA) on Friday afternoon in a spring-break showdown on Verdieck Courts. After sweeping the doubles, the Bulldogs captured straight-set victories at Nos. 4, 5, and 6 for the non-conference triumph.
The doubles competition remained close throughout the three matches, with each coming off the court in position order. First, the No. 1 duo of senior Brad Cummins (Rancho Mirage, CA) and junior Brysl Libao (Redlands, CA) prevailed by a score of 8-5, before sophomores Thomas Reznik (Belmont, CA) and Andrew Yip (Honolulu, HI) came away with an 8-6 result at No. 2. Finally, the No. 3 tandem of first-years Donovan Lilov (San Diego, CA) and Michael Cabacungan (Palm Springs, CA) completed the sweep with an 8-5 decision.
In singles, Cummins continued to roll with a 6-1, 6-0 dismantling of his No. 6 opponent to put Redlands up, 4-0.
Although the Generals answered with a win at No. 2, Libao quickly sealed the deal on the home team's victory with his 6-2, 6-2 effort at No. 4.
In addition, Yip captured a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles.
Redlands (1-2) faces Christopher Newport University (VA) on Friday, March 6, at 1 p.m. on Verdieck Courts.
