Softball wraps up spring break trip with 6-5 win over over Roanoke (Va.), 21-1 victory over Chatham (Pa.)

LEESBURG, Fla. — The Ohio Northern softball team wrapped up its spring break trip in impressive fashion, edging Roanoke (Va.) 6-5 in eight innings and topping Chatham (Pa.) 21-1 at the Sleepy Hollow fields on Friday.
The Polar Bears wrap up their trip with a 7-3 record and will bring a 4-game winning streak up north with them.
In the opener against Roanoke (7-6) on Friday morning, sophomore Kaitlyn Hagarty (Akron/Revere) scored on a 2-out, bases loaded error in the bottom of the eighth to win the game.
Senior Brady Guest (Convoy/Crestview) tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with a sac fly to score senior Alicia Swierz (Deerfield/Southeast) to even the score at 5-5.
Guest had a 2-run single to key a 3-run fourth inning to give ONU a 4-2 lead, but the Maroons battled back with three runs in the top of the sixth to go up 5-4.
Hagarty (3-1) came on in relief to pick up the win with a hitless eighth inning.
In the nightcap, the Polar Bear offense exploded for 23 base hits and four home runs to down the Cougars (1-9).
Freshman Lauren Walls (Grove City) was 2-for-2 with a grand slam and 5 RBI and sophomore Abby Elliott (Loveland/Ursuline) was 2-for-4 with a 3-run home run and 4 RBI.
Senior Jordan Cloonan (Kirtland/Cornerstone Christian) and freshman Sydney Motylinski (Ida, Mich.) also hit home runs for ONU.
Sophomore Stacey Walters (Sunbury/Big Walnut) threw a 3-hitter in the circle to improve to 3-1 on the year.
Guest finished the two games 3-for-5 with 5 RBI to lead the ONU offense.
The Polar Bears will return to acrtion March 20 when they host Alma (Mich.) in the home opener at the ONU Softball Field.
