UMW Women’s Soccer Falls at Shenandoah, 3-2, on Wednesday Evening

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team fell at Shenandoah University on Wednesday evening in Winchester, VA. The Eagles slip to 3-5 on the season.

In the early going, the Eagles had a good look at goal as Lindsey Hendrickson hit a shot in the bottom left corner but was saved by the Hornets. UMW kept the attack on as they recorded shots on goal in the 16th and 21st minute but were turned away by Shenandoah. 

The two teams then played an even half over the next 20 minutes until the Hornets scored a goal in the 40th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Shenandoah would hold on to that lead until the end of the half.

After the two teams maintained possession but didn't have many in the first few minutes, the scoring began. Shenandoah went up 2-0 in the 72nd minute as they scored off of a corner kick. UMW answered the Hornets goal with a goal of their own to put the game at 2-1. Brielle Mitchell scored her fourth goal of the season in the 73rd  minute. 

Shenandoah added their third goal of the game with just eight minutes to go to take a 3-1 advantage. The Eagles made a run at the game as Brooke Bauman scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Katherine Brady in the 88th minute. From there, the Eagles were unable to score in the last minute to tie the game up and Shenandoah won the match 3-2.

The Hornets outshot the Eagles 11-9 and UMW recorded three corner kicks. Aly Holden made three saves for UMW.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday as they will host St. Mary's in their conference opener at 1 p.m.
