Volleyball Rolls to Third Straight Victory with Two Sweeps Saturday

Both Xandy Green and Kaitlin Norman put up impressive numbers in Piedmont's two victories Saturday. Green had 29 assists in the two matches while Norman tallied 14 kills and 30 digs combined.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Greensboro, N.C. - The Piedmont Volleyball team continued its success Saturday with two sweeps against Agnes Scott College and Hollins University, making it the team's third straight victory with all three being 3-0 sweeps. The Lady Lions (5-2) sit tied at the top of the Greensboro College Invitational having gone undefeated through the first day of competition.

"It was a good team effort. We are starting to get some discipline," Head Volleyball Coach Sid Feldman said. "People are learning specific positions, but we have a long way to go."

In the first match of the day, Piedmont picked up its second straight sweep with a 3-0 defeat of former GSAC conference opponent Agnes Scott College. The Lady Lions routed the winless Scotties, winning in each set by 10 or more. PC opened winning the first set 25-14, coasted to a 25-12 win in the second set and left no question in the third winning 25-15.

The Lady Lions posted their best attack percentage in the second set with a .462 while holding the Scotties to a negative attack percentage in two of three sets. Junior Taylor Cramsey led the team with 12 kills, nearly doubling the number of kills she had all season, and posted a team high .526 attack percentage. "A good match for a right side hitter is about .200," Feldman said of Cramsey's impressive numbers.

Xandy Green posted 17 assists, the most she has totaled this season, while Kendele Donaldson was the team's libero for the first time this season recording 7 digs.

Against Hollins, Piedmont had a close first set winning 25-22, but in the second and third sets won decisively 25-14 in both. It was truly a team effort against Hollins as freshman Kait Steele led with 18 assists but Green was right behind her with 12 of her own. It was a similar story with Kaitlin Norman earning 9 kills while fellow senior Jennifer Opper was just one behind with 8 kills.

Norman also led the way with 22 digs in the match, coming up just one kill shy of her third double-double of the season. Behind Norman was Donaldson with 14 digs and Katie Faith contributing 11.

"Now we play two of the toughest teams at the tournament tomorrow," Feldman said. "We are going to have our hands full with both of those teams."

First up, the Lady Lions will be facing tournament host and USA South member Greensboro who also went undefeated on the first day of the tournament with the match beginning at noon, and Piedmont's final match of the tourney will be against Guilford College at 4 p.m.
