Men's tennis falls to Roanoke

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Roanoke won 5-of-6 singles matches to fend off the Blue Jay men's tennis team 5-4 Thursday in Hilton Head Island, S.C.

The loss was Elizabethtown's (0-3) third by a 5-4 score in three spring break matches.

Alex Machalick won a three-set thriller at No. 2 singles for the Jays. The sophomore from Mountain Top bounced back from a 6-4 setback to Matt Kessler in the first set, winning the second, 7-5, and the super tiebreaker, 11-9.

Fellow sophomore Ryan Caris went three sets with Jacob Morris at No. 3 singles. Caris jumped in front with a 6-4 first set victory, but dropped the second and tiebreaker sets 3-6, 4-10.

Roanoke (3-0) decided not to play any of the doubles matches that followed singles play, resulting in three forfeit points for the Blue Jays.

Elizabethtown ends its spring break trip with a match against Mount Union Friday at noon.
