UMW Men's Lax Falls at Roanoke on Wednesday Afternoon

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 19-7 decision at Roanoke College on Wednesday afternoon in Salem, Va. The Eagles slip to 1-4 on the season.

The Eagles kicked off the scoring on the day, as Ethan Castleman scored on a Logan Green with 1:21 elapsed into the game. The Maroons scored four goals in a three-minute time frame to grab the lead, and would go on to score 10 straight through the end of the first and the duration of the second quarter.

UMW trimmed the advantage to 10-3 by netting the first two goals of the third quarter. J.D. Nozemack scored on a Garrett Keogh assist with 12:40 remaining, and again with 9:24 to go in the third on an assist from Cameron Walker. After another Maroons score, Kristophe Newman scored with 3:28 remaining on a Green assist. Roanoke would score a pair of goals before UMW capped the scoring for the quarter with 36 seconds remaining, as Nozemack fed senior J.C. Reynolds for his first score of the day.

Roanoke opened the fourth quarter by posting five straight goals, to push its lead to 18-5. Freshman Clark Saben stopped the streak with his first tally, at 1:30 on the clock. After the Maroons scored with 14 seconds left, senior Greg Oh scored with five seconds left after winning the ensuing faceoff.

Roanoke led in shots, 54-24, as well as ground balls, 41-27. Each team won 15 faceoffs. 

UMW goalkeeper Riley Green made seven saves in the opening two quarters, and Bode Weber followed with eight saves in the second half. Nathan Turney and Jack-Henry Smith each had five ground balls for the Eagles.

UMW will be back in action on Saturday when the Eagles host St. Mary's College (Md.) in Coast 2 Coast Athletic Conference action, starting at 1:00 p.m.
