Hollins Women’s Basketball Stuns Emory & Henry With 78-73 Overtime Victory Wednesday

ROANOKE, Va. – The Hollins University Basketball Team (8-6, 3-5 ODAC) needed an extra period but completed a 78-73 overtime win over visiting Emory & Henry College (12-3, 6-2 ODAC) Wednesday evening in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.

How It Happened
- Hollins raced out to a 16-2 lead at the 4:40 mark of the opening period and would lead 23-8 after 10 minutes of play. The Wasps responded with a strong second quarter, scoring 15 in a row to tie the game, 29-29 at the half.
- In the third, the squads went back and forth with the green-and-gold going up 43-35 with 3:09 on the clock. E&H closed the period on a 9-0 run to go into the fourth up, 44-43.
- Emory & Henry pressed its advantage to seven (57-50) with 4:20 left in regulation, but HU reclaimed the advantage and led, 62-59, with 16 seconds to go. Wasp sophomore guard Callie Haderer (Bristol, Va.) nailed a three-pointer with eight seconds on the clock to force overtime.
- After E&H scored the first basket of the extra period, Hollins went on a 9-3 run to go ahead for good. The home team made all four of its field goals and went 7-for-10 at the free throw line to pull away for the 78-73 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior forward Kara Stafford (Bristol, Tenn.) posted career-highs with 22 points and 14 rebounds, going 10-for-11 at the free throw line while freshman guard Brylee Jones (Greeneville, Tenn.) had a season-best 13 points off the bench.
- Junior guard Josie Salyer (Mount Carmel, Tenn.) went for 12 points, three rebounds and two steals while Haderer finished with 11 points and four boards.

Hollins Individual Leaders
- Lenah Clements scored 27 points and came up one rebound short of the double-double to go along with three assists, three steals and three blocks.
- Serena Lytton had 176 points while Keyazia Taylor notched 13 points, seven boards, five steals and four blocks.
- Kayla Surles went for 11 points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry made just 22-of-62 (35.5%) of its shots with six three-pointers. The Wasps went 23-for-31 (74.2%) at the free throw line.
- Hollins shot 39.4 percent (26-of-66) for the game with 10 triples and went 16-of-26 at the stripe.
- Emory & Henry held a 52-35 rebounding advantage and outscored HU, 12-5, on second-chance points but fell victim to 29 turnovers.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will return home on Saturday to host Eastern Mennonite University at 4:30 p.m. The contest will be the second game of a doubleheader with the E&H men's team.
