Titans Cruise to Victory in Florida

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—Led by double-digit performances from Sarah Hardwick and Ava Douglas, the UW-Oshkosh Titans women's basketball squad snapped a three-game skid, defeating Roanoke College 70-49.

Hardwick tallied 14 points and 15 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Douglas added 13 points on six of nine shooting.

The Titans shot 42% from the field (29-of-69) and made nine 3-pointers in the contest. The Titans were held to three trips to the free throw line, going 3-of-5 at the line. The Titans collected 46 rebounds, 12 assists, seven streals, and three blocks in the contest. 

Game Summary

Hardwick found the first basket of the afternoon for the Titans, catching the ball from Bridget Froehlke for a 3-pointer. Hardwick collected the seven of the first ten points for the Titans, taking the lead for the Titans at 7-6. A 3-pointer by Douglas gave the Titans a two-point advantage as the Titans and Maroons of Roanoke traded baskets to end the first quarter.

A three-pointer from Kennedy Osterman extended the Titans lead to four as the Titans took the lead for the remainder of the game. The Maroons continued to find answers to the Titans offensive pressure, tying the contest at 22 with 6:03 remaining in the first half. The Titans defense held strong, holding the Maroon without a basket for over three-minutes. Avery Poole joined in the three-point action, on as assist from Jenna Jorgensen with 2:22 on the clock. Hardwick's layup with 59 seconds remaining in the half put the Titans ahead by double-digits before the Maroon answered with a basket of their own to end the half.

Mallory Lindsey scored the first points of the third quarter for the Titans, catching a pass from Vaile for a 3-pointer. Vaile drove to the basket for a layup with 5:35 remaining in the third as the Titans took a 13-point advantage. A 9-0 run by the Maroon cut the Titans lead to four as Allison Forney ended the scoring drought for the Titans with a 3-pointer. Forney's 3-pointer started a 7-2 run by the Titans to end the quarter.

Hardwick and Douglas answered the opening fourth quarter 3-pointer from the Maroons as the Titans kicked on the cruise control offensively. With four different Titans scoring on a 7-0 run, the Titans built a 15-point advantage with 5:39 remaining in the game. The Titans kept the offensive pressure up scoring seven points in 31 seconds. The Maroon had a buzz-beating 3-pointer as the Titans snapped a three-game losing streak to win 70-49.
