HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team is headed back to Minnesota with a perfect record in South Carolina and a perfect overall record. CSB wrapped up its trip with an 8-1 win over Bridgewater College Thursday afternoon in Hilton Head.
Saint Benedict finished its time on the East Coast 3-0 and the team heads back to Minnesota 6-0 overall as it gets ready to get into conference play next weekend.
"We ended our spring break on a very high note," head coach
Michael Engdahl said. "Our competition level has been increasing all season, and today was another example of how strong of a team we can be. We played three matches in a row at a high level, and we can't wait to bring that momentum back home."
CSB started the afternoon with a sweep of doubles play.
Kayla McIver and
Lily Fredericks fought through for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles, and
Tessa Rahrick and
Erin Kolbow won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Mackenzie Schurhamer and
Karsen Aune wrapped up doubles play with an 8-0 win at No. 3.
Rahrick pushed her match to the limit at No. 1 singles before falling 3-6, 6-2, 10-8. McIver won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Fredericks won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Kolbow, Schurhamer and Aune all won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles, respectively.
Up next for Saint Benedict is a nonconference match with St. Cloud rival St. Cloud State University at 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 15. The team opens MIAC play at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16, in Moorhead.
