Men's Hoops Opens the Season With Dominant Victory

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's men's basketball team opened the 2021-22 season with a convincing 86-59 victory over Randolph on the opening day of the Penn State Harrisburg Tip-Off Classic presented by Comfort Inn & Suites Harrisburg Airport Hershey South on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 6.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg (1-0) opened the 2021-22 season with an impressive 27-point victory Randolph at the Capital Union Building on Saturday afternoon. Five players in Dylan Daniels (17), Brandon Coleman (15), Donyae Baylor-Carroll (13), Nate Curry (10), and Pedro Rodriguez (10) reached the double-digit scoring mark in the win.

Coleman brought the hometown crowd to its feet with a monster dunk in the early going off an assist from Baylor-Carroll and Daniels carried the load offensively to begin the game, netting 10 of the team's first 22 points. Leading 11-10 early on, the Lions put together a 14-5 run capped by Curry's old-fashioned 3-point play with 8:45 left in the first half.

The home team stretched the advantage to as much as 15 points following a Chris Haynes 3-ball before taking a 12-point lead in the break.

Baylor-Carroll opened the second half with a corner 3-pointer before a pair of Curry free throws stretched the advantage to 15. A Zegary Scott III layup off a feed from Baylor-Carroll pushed the lead to 57-36 with 16:03 left and Rodriguez and DBC eventually traded triples before Robert Bobeck's layup with 11:33 left upped the advantage to 31.

The starters got a well-deserved rest in the closing minutes, allowing Malik Holland, Josh Martin, and Lance Douglas to close out the game's scoring and put a bow on the season-opening victory.
