The Lead: The Roanoke field hockey team traveled to Eastern Mennonite for an early Saturday matchup with the Royals. The Maroons got the morning off to a quick start with a late first period score, followed up by a second goal in the opening minutes of the second frame. Leading 2-0 at the half, Roanoke poured it on in the second half with four more goals to make it a 6-0 final, earning their first ODAC win of the season.
Highlights:
- The game would remain scoreless for the first 14 minutes of the opening quarter. Roanoke broke through when Emilee Wooten scored to stake the Maroons to a 1–0 advantage.
- Lindsey Keyes made it 2-0, less than five minutes into the second period and RC took that lead into the half after enjoying a 23-1 shot edge over the first 30 minutes.
- That pressure continued during a second half that would be played mostly on the Royals side of the field.
- Wooten and Katherine Martin added third quarter scores to push the lead to 4-0.
- In the fourth, Hope Keller made the lead five before Martha Hurley closed out the scoring for the game.
- The final shot tally would read 38-1 in favor of the Maroons.
- Madison Wingerter earned the shutout saving the only shot she faced.
