Roanoke Pulls Away for ODAC Win Over Guilford, 74-63

SALEM, Va. – Rebecca Bays scored 13 of her game-high 19 points in the second half of Roanoke College's 74-63 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win over visiting Guilford College Tuesday night. The Maroons (4-1, 2-0 ODAC) used a 13-0 run midway through the second half to pull away for the win.

The contest was close for the first 30 minutes as the teams combined for nine ties and 10 lead changes. Guilford's Jazlyn Gibbs knotted the score at 54 with two free throws at the 8:38 mark of the second half. Roanoke's Morgan Lazenby and Hannah Davidson triggered the decisive run with consecutive three-pointers and Nicci Moats added four of her 12 points. By the time Guilford's Brittany Atwater scored to break the run, Roanoke held a 67-56 edge with 4:42 remaining.

Jordan Gholson netted 12 of her 14 points in the second half for Roanoke. She made four-of-five second-half field goals, which contributed to the Maroons 55.2 percent shooting percentage in the second half. Roanoke shot just 36.4 percent from the floor in the first half and trailed the Quakers by 29-28 at the break.

Gibbs paced four Quakers (4-3, 1-2 ODAC) in double-figure scoring with 18 points. Morgan King added 12 points and Atwater finished with a season-high 11 for Guilford. Lauren LeFevers contributed 10 points for the Quakers, who close out the fall semester portion of their schedule Thursday (12/9) against visiting Averett University at 7:00 p.m.
