NCWC Baseball Tops Randolph-Macon 7-2

ASHLAND, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College baseball team pulled off a quality 7-2 win in the first game of their series with ODAC foe Randolph-Macon College on the road Saturday afternoon. Game two of the series was suspended in the 8th inning with the Bishops trailing 8-4. 

Freshman 3B and leadoff hitter Tyson Bass led off the game with a solo home run to stake the Bishops to the early lead. Wesleyan then added two more runs in the 2nd inning on a wild pitch and a throwing error to make it 3-0. A single from junior DH Travis Cross in the 4th coupled with another RMC error gave Wesleyan a 4-0 lead as junior SS Nate Hibbs came around to score.

An RBI triple from 2B Davie Morgan in the 5th made it 5-0 before a two-run homer from Hibbs completed the Bishop scoring. Hibbs finished 2 for 2 with 3 runs scored, a stolen base and a double to go along with his first home run.

Senior pitcher Derrick Carter (1-0) picked up the win on the mound for the Bishops tossing 5 and 2/3 innings allowing one run on 6 hits with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts. Junior reliever Zach Woolard then threw an inning of relief allowing a hit and a run on 2 walks and 2 Ks.

Wesleyan is now 7-1 on the year with their 6th straight win. 

The teams will finish off their series on Sunday afternoon in Rocky Mount at 1 PM with the completion of the suspended game followed immediately by game three.
