Generals Take High-Scoring Series Finale, 14-7

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College baseball team (6-2) concluded a three-game series with Washington and Lee University (4-2) on Monday afternoon, as the Generals used a hot start to take a 14-7 victory in the series finale.

Blake Burchett, Jason Jucker, and Kenneth Pridmore all had multi-hit performances for the Tornados, while Logan Clark scored a pair of runs. Pridmore, who was making his Tornado debut, tallied a pair of singles, while Burchett had a double and a triple on his ledger. BC as a team had three triples, with Clark and Jonathan Graves each reaching third base.

Graves, Pridmore, Ryan Leiman, and Luke Morton all logged their first collegiate hits in the contest, while Hayden Jennings scored his first career run.

Cale Oehler (0-1) made his first collegiate pitching start on the mound for the Tornados, lasting two innings with three earned runs. Cameron Cook came on in relief and impressed in the latter stages, throwing 3 and 2/3 innings of two-hit, shutout ball with three strikeouts.

John Benner (2-0) threw six innings of two-run ball to earn the victory for the Generals, who scored a whopping 14 runs on 16 hits. The W&L offense was led by leadoff man Luke Erdmann, who went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI. Brian Wickman had a game-high three RBI, as five Generals had multi-hit performances.

Washington and Lee struck early, hitting a pair of extra-base hits to start the game off. The visitors scored two runs in each of the first two frames before putting a three-spot up in the third to take a 7-0 lead. The Tornados were unable to keep the W&L offense in check, as the Generals added four runs in the top of the fourth to dash out to an 11-0 advantage.

Morton singled home Clark in the bottom of the fourth before Leiman's RBI single scored Morton, giving the hosts their first runs of the ballgame. W&L was able to answer right back, scoring once in the fifth and a pair in the sixth to push its lead back up to a 14-2 margin.

Brevard was able to score five unanswered runs over the course of the seventh and eighth innings. A Jucker RBI single - the 100th hit of his career - followed by a Clark RBI triple made the score 14-4, before Clark came around on a sacrifice fly to make it 14-5 in the bottom of the seventh. BC scored a pair in the home half of the eighth inning, as Graves' first-career triple scored Jennings before Graves came across on a wild pitch.

The Generals were able to shut the Tornados down in the ninth inning to salvage a win in the series finale, as Brevard earned a series victory by taking two-out-of-three from the visitors.

Brevard will return to action as BC begins a three-game non-conference series against Greensboro College. The Tornados and Pride will begin their series with a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at 2 and 5 p.m. at Truist Point - the home of the High Point Rockers in High Point, North Carolina.
