Lynchburg Baseball Sweeps Emory & Henry In ODAC Doubleheader Sunday

EMORY, Va. – The University of Lynchburg Baseball Team (19-8, 10-2 ODAC) pounded out 30 hits on the afternoon as it earned a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference wins over Emory & Henry College (4-10, 3-10 ODAC). The Hornets took game one by an 18-2 score and completed the sweep with a 13-6 win in game two

The contests, originally scheduled for Saturday, were pushed back 24 hours due to the forecast of rain and potential thunderstorms in Southwest Virginia.

Game One – Lynchburg 18, Emory & Henry 2
Lynchburg got on the board in the third on a solo home run by Garrett Jackson. The Hornets pushed their lead to 6-0 in the fourth, highlighted by a three-run shot down the left-field line by Avery Neaves.

E&H broke into the scoring column in the fifth when freshman left fielder Jared Foley (Sparta, N.C.) reached on an error by the shortstop that allowed junior centerfielder Connor Buchanan (Meadowview, Va.) to score.

Lynchburg got one run back in the sixth and added four more in the seventh to extend the lead to 11-1. In the bottom half of the seventh, Foley plated Buchanan again, this time with a single through the left side.

The Hornets added seven runs in the ninth to make the final margin 18-2 as Cameron Lane capped the scoring with a three-run triple down the right-field line.

Kinston Carson earned the win for Lynchburg, allowing two unearned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts in seven innings of work. E&H senior Noah Griffin (Fort Mill, S.C.) took the loss, allowing one earned run on seven hits in four innings.

Game Two – Lynchburg 13, Emory & Henry 6
After three and a half scoreless innings, Emory & Henry took a 2-0 lead through four on a two-run homer to right field by junior designated hitter Koty Proctor (Archdale, N.C.). Lynchburg's offense wok up in the fifth, scoring seven runs as Gavin Collins and Chris Martin each had two-run doubles.

Three runs in both the sixth and seventh frames gave the Hornets a 13-2 advantage before the Wasps scored four in the bottom of the eighth for the final 13-6 score. Buchanan drew a bases-loaded walk and Foley hit an infield single to highlight the inning as E&H also scored on a pair of Lynchburg errors.

Brandon Pond scattered two runs on six hits and five strikeouts over seven innings on his way to the win while senior J.T. Agosto (Cornelius, N.C.) allowed nine runs on 10 hits, pitching 5.2 innings for the Wasps.

Up Next
Emory & Henry will be on the road next Saturday when it visits Hampden-Sydney College for a doubleheader at noon. The Wasps' midweek game against Guilford College has been postponed.
