The Lead: After a come from behind win last night in Guilford, Roanoke was back on the road for a non-conference match with Mary Baldwin. The Maroons committed just one attack error in the first set as they cruised to an early lead. After a 15-kill effort in the second and another 15 in the third, Roanoke secured the non-conference win over Mary Baldwin.  

Highlights:

  • Roanoke raced out to an early advantage and after a Kylee Draper service ace, the Maroons had jumped on Mary Baldwin, 8-1. Nine kills and just a single error later, RC held a 1-0 lead.
  • The Squirrels enjoyed a 3-0 start to the second frame before kills by Parker Moody and Linsey Bailey started a Roanoke rally to tie the set at 6-6. On the back of 15 kills, Roanoke closed the set on a 19-10 run to push their advantage to 2-0.
  • In the third set, kills by Moody, Bailey, and Olivia Newman allowed the Maroons to open up a lead that they would never relinquish on their way to the sweep of Mary Baldwin.
  • Moody paced the Roanoke offense with 11 kills while Bailey added eight and the dup of Angel Ross and Peyton Kirchner finished with seven.
  • Newman and Draper combined for 32 assists with Bailey recording a team-high 14 digs.

Up next: Roanoke will play their home finale on Saturday afternoon when Shenandoah comes to the Cregger Center for a 1:00pm start.
