Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Holds Off Guilford, 48-46, Sunday Afternoon On The Road

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (3-1) came away with a 48-46 win despite a fourth-quarter rally by Guilford College (1-3) Sunday at Ragan-Brown Field House.

How It Happened
- The two teams traded baskets early in the game with GC taking a 9-8 lead. The Quakers then reeled off seven in a row to go up 16-8 with 3:28 on the first period clock, leading 20-13 through 10 minutes of action.
- In the second, the Wasps and Quakers went shot for shot on three-point buckets early before a 12-0 run by E&H to close the half made it a 28-26 contest.
- The third period saw Emory & Henry score seven in a row to get things started for a 35-26 advantage with 6:51 to go. GC trimmed the lead to three 35-32 before E&H scored back-to-back layups to go into the final quarter up 39-32.
- The first minute of the fourth was a scoring frenzy with 11 points scored between the two teams. Guilford carved into the deficit at 44-40 before four in a row by E&H made it just enough to hold off a pair of threes by GC to end the game, 48-46.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior guard Amaya Lee (Bristol, Va.) led the Wasps with 10 points as she added five assists, four rebounds and three steals while freshman guard Macy McClellan (Kingsport, Tenn.) had nine points and two boards off the bench.
- Junior guard Brylee Jones (Greeneville, Tenn.) notched eight points, two assists and two steals while freshman forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) went for six points, six rebounds and two assists.

Guilford Individual Leaders
- J'la Hinson posted a game-high 13 points, adding six rebounds and three assists as Carleigh Perry recorded 11 points, four assist and three rebounds.
- Abby Kennedy scored four points to go along with 10 rebounds and two blocks while Courtney McMillan and six points and nine rebounds.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot just 28.6 percent (18-for-63) for the game with eight three-pointers. The Wasps made the most of their limited chances at the free throw line, going 4-for-4.
- Guilford shot 17-for-47 (36.2%) from the field with six makes from long range. The Quakers converted just 46.2 percent (6-of-13) of their chances at the stripe.
- E&H held a 35-23 rebounding advantage, outscoring GC 11-5 on second-chance points. The Wasps also led, 18-6, on points off turnovers, taking advantage of 23 Quaker miscues.
