Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's basketball team defeated the Captains of Christopher Newport University on Friday evening in nonconference exhibition game at TowneBank Arena. VWU had five players in double-digits led by redshirt senior
Lamont Steward.
INSIDE THE SCORE
The game began with the Marlins getting on the scoreboard first taking a 4-0 lead but the Captains came back and took a 9-6 lead with 16 minutes on the clock. VWU put up a pair of baskets taking back the lead 10-9 before CNU hit a basket to led yet again 11-10. Virginia Wesleyan put up eight unanswered points, spurred by a Joey Le three-pointer, taking a seven-point lead, 18-11, and never looked back. In the final ten minutes of the first half, the Marlins held the Captains to just nine more points while going on to add 30 points to their score to lead 48-20 at the halftime horn.
VWU managed to maintain an average of a 30-point lead the entire second half of the contest and ended up winning 84-58.

The Marlins were led by red-shirt senior
Lamont Steward with 18 points and 10 rebounds as well as three blocks.
Tim Fisher added 16 points for VWU with
Tyree Golston contributing 12 of his own.
Corey Pelham and
Jordan White each added 11 points apiece to round out the Marlins double-digit scorers.
CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT LEADERS
The Captains were led by Jahn Hines with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Jason Aigner was the only other Captain in double-digits with 10 points on the night.

The Virginia Wesleyan Marlins will return to action on Sunday, February 21 when they hit the road to take on the Panthers of Ferrum College in Ferrum, VA. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 pm and will be broadcasted for fans to watch.
