ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The Methodist Monarchs led early, but the Emory & Henry Wasps took a 50-43 halftime lead and went on to win 113-104 in the first game of the Eastern N.C. Men's Basketball Classic.
Methodist (0-3) scored the first two baskets of the game, but Emory & Henry (2-1) came back to tie the game at six and went on to take the 17-10 lead. Senior
Alex Meadows sank a 3-pointer and a layup to move the Monarchs to within two, but Emory & Henry built their lead to as many as 13. The Monarchs finished on a 6-0 run just before halftime, but the Wasps led 50-43.
Emory & Henry led throughout the second half, but the Monarchs were able to cut the lead to six with 58 seconds to go in the game on a layup by freshman
Mark Jernigan. Methodist followed up with the foul and Emory & Henry's J.D. Dyson hit both free throws to lead by eight. The Wasps were 7-for-8 from the free throw line in the final minute to finish with the 113-104 win.
Jernigan led the Monarchs with 30 points and eight rebounds. Senior #A.B. Lehmann
had 16 points and six assists while junior Tyler Sigman
and sophomore Joshua Crumpler# had 13 a piece.
The Wasps had six players finish in double figures.
Methodist will face Norwich on Saturday at 2 pm.
