The Basics
Score: Roanoke 11 | Emory & Henry 2
Records: Maroons 15-7 / 8-3 ODAC  | Wasps 4-8 / 3-8 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke looked to get back on track after a loss at Averett last night when they hosted Emory & Henry in a mid-week Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup on Wednesday night. The Maroons used a five-run second inning to gain control of the game and cruise to an 11-2 ODAC win at Salem Memorial Ballpark.

How it Happened:

  • Kevin Ledford got the start for Roanoke, going two hitless innings, striking out a pair of Wasps.
  • In the bottom of the second inning, the Maroons would break open the game with five runs. Cale Agee doubled to open the inning and would score on a Gavin Kandrick single up the middle. After advancing on a pair of wild pitches, Kandrick would come home on a Tyler De Meo base hit. De Meo stole second and scored on a double by Mason Staz. Carter Plunkett singled and stole second to put runners on second and third for a Will Merriken two-RBI single.
  • The Wasps would get on the board in the top of the third before Roanoke would go back on the attack. Agee and Kandrick would once again reach base via singles. Agee came across on another wild pitch while De Meo would drive in Kandrick for the 7-1 lead.
  • One inning later, Merriken singled and Conner Butler reached on an error. An Agee SAC fly brought home one with Butler crossing home on an E&H throwing error.
  • Merriken and Butler would each score in the bottom of the eighth.
  • Kandrick and Merriken were each 3-4, combining for four runs and three RBI. Agee and De Meo each recorded a pair of hits.
  • Will Turner picked up his fourth win of the season, pitching three innings, giving up four hits and a pair of runs with three strikeouts. Josh Dawson, Anthony Sullivan, and Nick Davis combined to pitch four, hitless innings.

Up Next: The Maroons travel to Bridgewater for an ODAC double header on Saturday with games scheduled to start at noon and 3:00pm.
