Johns Hopkins Opens With 3-1 Win Over Hampden-Sydney

The Basics
• Score: #22 Johns Hopkins-3, Hampden-Sydney-1
• Records: JHU (1-0-0) • HSC (0-1-0)
• Location: Fredericksburg, VA • Battleground Turf
• The Short Story: The 22nd-ranked Johns Hopkins men's soccer team opened the season with a 3-1 win over Hampden-Sydney Friday night at the UMW Classic.

How it Happened
• Junior RJ Moore opened the scoring in the 15th minute when he beat Gray Sutter on a one touch off a loose ball in front of the Tigers' goal. The lead lasted just 11 minutes as Jack Sweney scored on a deflection in the 26th minute to knot the score at one.
• Junior Pablo Martinez then put the Blue Jays back on top, for good as it turned out, in the 54th minute. Senior Liam Moylan sent the ball into the box and Martinez headed it past Sutter for the game-winner.
• Junior Nate Charendoff added an insurance goal in the 68th minute to push the Blue Jays' lead to two. Senior Connor Jacobs crossed the ball in front of the goal and Charendoff was there to bury it.

• The Blue Jays have won their last three season openers and are 5-3-4 under head coach Craig Appleby in season openers.
• Jacobs handed out his 12th career assist and he is now tied for 17th in program history.

Inside the Box Score
