WINCHESTER, Va. - No. 3 in the nation Virginia Wesleyan used a quick start to fuel a 76-48 non-league men's basketball victory over host Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.

The Marlins (10-0) scored the first 11 points of the game and never looked back against SU (1-7).

The loss was the Hornets third to a nationally ranked opponent this season. Shenandoah has now played a team ranked No. 2 (Randolph-Macon) and two ranked No. 3 (Eastern Mennonite and VWC) in the opening month of the 2010-11 campaign.

Scoring the first 11 points of the game, Virginia Wesleyan maintained at least a nine-point blie until a Chris Teasley three-point play at the 11:02 mark of the first pushed the lead out to 12 points.

From this point on, VWC held a double-digit lead.

Teasley's bucket and foul shot started a 12-0 run for the Marlins, giving Shenandoah's future ODAC foe a 25-4 lead with just under eight minutes to play in the first.

After cutting the deficit to 18 on three occasions, the last on a Bruce Mitchell fastbreak layup, SU saw Virginia Wesleyan take a 42-18 halftime lead.

The second half brought more of the same until an 18-8 VWC run in the middle of the stanza gave the Marlins their biggest lead, 34 points, with 11:01 left.

Shenandoah then completed the game on a 20-14 run to provide the final margin of victory.

Senior Mitch Dudley led the Hornets with 20 points and 15 rebounds with classmate Brandon Bryan adding 12 points.

SU was without senior Kevin Kline, who missed the game due to his brother's wedding.

Donald Vaughn paced VWC with 18 points and 11 boards while Teasley added 13 points.

Virginia Wesleyan shot 30 for 71 (42.3 percent) for the game and owned a 44-35 advantage on the glass.

Shenandoah is back in action on Thursday at Division I William & Mary. Game time in Williamsburg is scheduled for 7 p.m.
