FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Monarchs came out and scored early, but Guilford tied the game midway through the second half. It took 110 minutes, but Methodist finished the way they started, winning 2-1 over Guilford College.

In just the fourth minute of play, Methodist sophomore Danielle Minichello fed senior Whitney Roberson inside the six-yard box for Roberson to score and give the Monarchs the 1-0 lead. Methodist (2-4) dominated the first half, out shooting the Quakers (1-5) 6-2 in the first half.

Guilford came back in the second half and evened the score in the 68th minute. Both teams had opportunities late in the game, but with the score tied at one at the end of the regulation, the teams set up for overtime.

Methodist edged Guilford with two shots to one through the first ten minutes of overtime, but the score remained 1-1. The Quakers took the first shot of the second overtime period, but the Monarchs pushed the ball back to the other end. With less than ten seconds remaining, Methodist senior Erica Nath won the ball in the midfield and fed Minichello inside the box. Minichello slipped the ball past the Guilford goalkeeper as time expired for the 2-1 win.

Methodist goalkeeper Kasey Nichols finished with 11 saves in the game while Kat Adams had seven stops for the Quakers.

The Monarchs will take the road this weekend to take on Agnes Scott on Saturday and Spelman on Sunday.
