Roanoke Women’s Basketball Tops Emory & Henry, 74-62, Thursday Evening

SALEM, Va. – The Roanoke College Women's Basketball Team (3-1, 1-1 ODAC) saw four players reach double figures in scoring as it earned a 74-62 conference win over Emory & Henry College (1-4, 1-3 ODAC) Thursday evening.

How It Happened
- The Maroons jumped out to a 7-2 lead at the 6:32 mark of the opening period. E&H responded with an 11-4 run to go ahead, 13-11, four minutes later but RC scored the final six of the quarter for a 17-13 lead.
- In the second, a 10-3 run by the Wasps gave them a 23-21 advantage with 7:26 on the clock but the Maroons answered with a 20-7 scoring burst to go up 40-31 at the intermission.
- The two squads went nearly shot for shot in the second half. Roanoke would lead by as much as 18 down the stretch but Emory & Henry finished the game on a 10-4 run for the final 74-62 margin.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior center Alexis Hoppers (Sparta, N.C.) put up a team-high 12 points to go along with five rebounds while sophomore guard Amaya Lee (Bristol, Va.) had 11 points, three steals, two rebounds and two assists.
- Senior forward Elizabeth Jones (Wytheville, Va.) posted 10 points, three rebounds and three steals and freshman guard Taylor Owens (Bristol, Tenn.) tacked on nine points off the bench.

Roanoke Individual Leaders
- Sayre Brandstatter led all players with 14 points off the bench to go along with three rebounds and three assists while Morgan Micallef had 13 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals.
- Renee Alquiza contributed 12 points and five boards as Whitney Hopson went for 10 points, six assists, three rebounds and two steals.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry made 23-of-48 (47.9%) of its field goal attempts but struggled from deep, going just 5-for-20 (25%). The Wasps hit 64.7 percent (11-for-17) of their free throws.
- Roanoke shot 51.8 percent (29-for-56) for the game with nine makes from beyond the arc. The Maroons assisted on 22 of their 29 made baskets.
- RC held a 33-23 rebounding advantage and used eight offensive rebounds to lead, 10-5, on second-chance points.
- The Maroons also posted a 36-30 advantage on points in the paint and a 20-4 margin on points off turnovers.
