Baseball Dealt 8-7 Loss by Bridgewater (Va.)
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College baseball team absorbed an 8-7 setback to Bridgewater (Va.) Tuesday in the first-ever meeting between the two clubs.
The Lions drop to 4-3 on the season while the Eagles improve to 9-1 overall with the result.
Joshua Bombard (Rutland, Mass.) finished racked up three base hits, two RBIs, and one run scored. Dylan Louviaux (Mohnton, Pa.) posted a pair of base knocks and two runs scored. Hunter Leroux-Porter (Greenland, N.H.) contributed with two hits, two stolen bases, and a run scored. Andres Medina (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) collected one hit and drove in a pair of RBIs.
Bridgewater scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning to grab a 1-0 edge. Jarrett Biesecker crossed the dish on an RBI groundout by Matthew LaPrade.
The Eagles extended their advantage to 4-0 with three runs in the second. Jacob Talley singled to left to drive in Phillip Herber. Kevin Navedo followed with a two-run double to plate Jeffrey Snider and Talley.
Eastern Nazarene leveled the contest with four runs in the top of the third inning. Bombard belted his first home run of the spring to score Louviaux. Medina laced a two-out single to right field to knock in Steven Pesce (Harrison, N.Y.) and Leroux-Porter.
Bridgewater produced a pair of runs in the seventh to seize a 6-4 edge. Talley trotted home on a throwing error after Luke Paczewski singled. Paczewski came around to score from third base on a passed ball.
The Lions answered with three runs in the top of the eighth to claim their first lead of the day, 7-6. Juan Jacobo Lopez (San Diego, Calif.) scurried home on a sacrifice bunt by Louviaux. Brandon Guerrero (Boston, Mass.) tagged up and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Pesce. Louviaux put Eastern Nazarene ahead as he crossed the dish on a wild pitch.
The Eagles generated two runs in the home half of the frame to regain a one-run edge, 8-7. Biesecker scored on a balk before Navedo motored home on an RBI groundout by LaPrade.
Bobby Fulkerson (Anaheim, Calif.) pitched six innings and registered one strikeout in his first start on the mound this spring. Morgan Weast (Cincinnati, Ohio) hurled one inning of relief and struck out two batters in his second relief appearance of the season. Jon Tessier (Coronado, Calif.) threw one inning and recorded one strikeout in his team-leading fourth outing.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will face York (Pa.) March 4.
