The Lead: The Roanoke college women's lacrosse team traveled to New Jersey to face Farleigh Dickinson – Florham on Sunday afternoon. FDU-Florham would take a one-goal lead into the final five minutes of the contest. Roanoke would tie the game and in the final minute, the Maroons were awarded a Free position shot. Roanoke would convert the opportunity and pick up the 16-15, non-conference, win.   

How it Happened:

  • Lilly Blair got the Maroons off to a fast start. Blair would set up Riley Chase to make it 2-0 and the lead would grow over the next five-minutes. Molly Kasemeyer and Chase would see Roanoke start the game on a 4-0 surge. The Devils scored the final two goals of the opening quarter to make it 4-2, Maroons, after 15-minutes of play.
  • FDU-Florham netted the first score of the second period before Chase answered. However, the Devils would use three Free Position opportunities to score five consecutive goals and take an 8-5 advantage. In the final 1:11, Libby Bowman scored twice to get the Maroons to within 8-7 at the half.
  • Over the first 10-minutes of the third frame, Blair (3) and Kylee Garcia (2) would wage a battle and with 4:17 on the clock the game would be tied at 10-10. Maddie Stopkoski found Emerson Foster to allow the Maroons to retake the lead, but a Devil score with :09 on the clock would send the game into the fourth quarter in an 11-11 tie.
  • Down one, Bowman, Stopkoski, and Nicole Harrison went back-to-back-to-back as Roanoke led, 14-12 with 7:21 to play.
  • Katie Walsh scored her third and fourth goals of the afternoon and with 5:00 left in the game, FDU-Florham enjoyed a 15-14 edge.
  • Sydney Harrison found Chase for the equalizer with 4:57 remaining. With just 34 second left on the clock, Harrison (Sydney) would be awarded a Free position shot. Harrison found the back of the net and Roanoke escaped New Jersey with a 16-15 victory.
  • Blair and chase each scored four times while Bowman added three goals. In goal, Kyleigh Chickering got the win, recording five saves.

Up Next: Roanoke plays the first of three straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) games when they host Lynchburg on Wednesday afternoon at Kerr stadium for a 4:00pm opening draw.
