Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Rallies To Defeat Ferrum, 63-60, Wednesday On The Road

FERRUM, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (4-5, 4-3 ODAC) overcame a 15-point first-half deficit to earn a 63-60 road victory over Ferrum College (1-6, 1-6 ODAC) in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action Wednesday evening.

How It Happened
- After the two teams traded baskets for a 4-4 tie through the opening 4:34 of the game, Ferrum went on a 16-1 run to lead 20-5 at the end of the first.
- The Wasps scored the first eight points of the second period to close the gap to 20-13. Down by 10 with 3:34 on the clock, E&H scored nine in a row to erase the deficit and trail by just one, 25-24, at the intermission.
- Coming out of the break, the Panthers extended their lead to 40-32 with 4:24 on the clock but the Wasps responded with a 12-3 run to take its first lead since the opening minute of the game on a layup by junior guard Taylor Gilbert (Abingdon, Va.), 44-43, with 9:48 left in the fourth.
- FC responded to tie the contest at 50-all but an 8-0 run by E&H gave the Wasps a 58-50 lead with 3:49 to play. Ferrum was able to close the gap to one with 16 seconds left, but a pair of free throws by sophomore guard Amaya Lee (Bristol, Va.) sealed the 63-60 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore guard Brylee Jones (Greeneville, Tenn.) posted a team-high 14 points and added six rebounds off the bench while junior center Alexis Hoppers (Sparta, N.C.) notched a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
- Finished the game with 11 points and three boards while Lee had four points, seven assists, seven steals and three rebounds.

Ferrum Individual Leaders
- Aisha Martin led all players with 19 points, tacking on 10 rebounds and five assists.
- Cameron Hawkins had 13 points, six rebounds and two steals while Kayla Cabiness finished with 13 points and two assists.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 21-for-63 (33.3%) from the field, making eight three-pointers. The Wasps shot 72.2 percent (13-for-18) from the free throw line.
- Ferrum made 37.7 percent (23-for-61) of its shots, connecting on seven shots from long range. The Panthers went 7-for-11 (63.6%) from the stripe.
- E&H held a 44-41 rebounding advantage but FC made the most of its 11 offensive rebounds, holding an 8-4 lead on second-chance points.
- The Wasps posted an 18-12 lead on points off turnovers, and led 27-5 on bench points.
