The Basics
Score:  Roanoke 57 | Guilford 65
Records: Maroons 16-8 / 8-7 ODAC | Quakers 17-5 / 13-2 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: For the final time this season, the Roanoke men's basketball team took the court in front of their home fans when they welcomed Guilford to campus. The Quakers had beaten Roanoke, 58-53, back in early January and the Maroons looked to even the season series. Guilford built a six-point lead but the Maroons cut it to 33-32 at the break. Guilford would use a 20-3 run to start the second half to put Roanoke in a big hole. On four consecutive possessions, the Maroons hit 3-pointers to cut the deficit to 59-53, but couldn't complete the comeback as Guilford held on for the 65-57 win.

How it Happened:

  • Efosa U-Edosomwan would score two-minutes into the game as both teams struggled in the early going. Guilford quickly answered with a three-pointer and took the advantage. U-Edosomwan scored again and the Quakers held a 5-4 lead.
  • The deficit was five when Tripp Greene nailed a jumper from long range to get Roanoke back to within a basket. With 10:41 on the clock, a Kasey Draper free throw would get the Maroons to within a point, 19-18.
  • The Guilford lead would reach six, leading to a timeout with 7:00 to go in the opening half. Roanoke closed the half on an 11-6 run and when Draper hit a jump shot at the one-minute mark the score would be 33-32 at the break.
  • A pair of Draper free throws put Roanoke back in front but the next 10 minutes belong to the visitors as Guilford built a 53-35 lead with just under 12-minutes left to play. Greene hit from long range to cut the deficit to 14 with 7:19 remaining.
  • The Quakers pushed the lead back to 17 with 3:40 left to play. The next four possessions would see Brandon Ellington and Draper combine for 12 points as the Maroons had gotten back to within six, 59-53.
  • Roanoke got the defensive stop they needed but the 12th Guilford offensive rebound of the night would halt the Maroon rally as the Quakers held on for the 65-57, Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), win.
  • Draper led the Maroons with 23 points with Greene adding nine points and six rebounds. Ellington and U-Edosomwan each scored seven while Trent Dawson handed out five assists.

Up next: The Maroons wrap up regular season play on Saturday when they travel to Bridgewater for a 2:00pm tip with the Eagles.
